June - Traveling with your pet.

Summer is the time of year for vacations. That great, all-American road trip is out there waiting for you and your furry friend. You have your bags packed and you are ready to go, but is your pet as ready as you are?

Traveling with your pet can be both fun and stressful. The more prepared you and your pet are, the more enjoyable your next trip together will be. Follow these tips to have fun, safe travels with your pet:

  • If your pet doesn't enjoy riding in the car, help prepare them for the trip by taking short car rides around your neighborhood. Gradually increase the time of your rides as your pet becomes more comfortable.
  • Keep your pet restrained while you are driving. Whether you use a crate or a pet seat belt, make sure your pet is safe while your are focusing on the road ahead.
  • Take breaks along the way. Just as you need to take restroom breaks, grab a snack, and stretch your legs, so does your pet. Be sure to stop every couple of hours or whenever your pet seems restless.
  • Take bottled water. Water in different areas of the country isn't always the same as the water back home. To avoid any upset digestive systems, always give your pet bottled water while traveling.
  • Plan ahead. Know where you are going to stop along the way. Call ahead to make sure your hotel and other destinations are pet friendly.
  • Carry a copy of your pet's vaccination records. You never know when you will be asked to provide proof of current vaccines.
  • Make sure your pet is vaccinated appropriately and treated for any potential parasites. For example, if you are headed camping you should consider having your pet vaccinated for Lymes Disease and Leptospirosis. Your pet should also be protected from fleas, ticks, and heartworm disease.

Follow these tips to enjoy a great summer adventure with your pet. For more tips, or to better prepare your pet for your next trip, call us today at 402-492-9022.

The dental care process for my dog CoCo was AMAZING! This was the first oral check up for CoCo and the staff was to great about explaining everything to me. They kept me 'in the loop' on all they were doing and how CoCo was handling the process. They truly care about my dog and I couldn't be more appreciative.
